A new approach to addiction recovery.
Drug and alcohol addiction is tough, relentless and cruel. It can destroy your career, your finances, your relationships, and just about everything else that is important to you. So how can 7 days make a difference in the fight against such a powerful adversary?
Let’s begin to answer that question by stating the obvious. There is no cure for substance abuse addiction. The urge to drink and use doesn’t disappear. There is no quick fix, no medication, no psychotherapy that can promise immediate or lasting recovery. Overcoming addiction is a long and challenging journey. However, there are steps you can take that make recovery easier, and long-term sobriety more certain.
Before you come to our addiction recovery program at Dominion Hill (St. Andrews, New Brunswick, near the Maine border) you will have taken two important steps. First, you will have decided that you want to stop using, that you want to live differently and have a better life. Hopefully that desire to stop using comes from deep inside, and you are ready to go into battle to overcome your drug or alcohol addiction. Secondly, you have already stopped using, and as you detox your body and brain, the process of healing begins.
Addiction recovery requires tools.
Now you are ready to acquire the tools, and develop the strategies, that will enable you to establish a strong recovery. This is where we help. We believe this learning process should be the primary purpose of addiction rehab.
Addiction, the desire to use drugs and alcohol to change the way you feel, does not happen by accident. It is driven by a wide range of issues that you must learn to identify, and manage, rather than self-medicate. Whether your “triggers,” are anxiety, stress, relationship problems, low self worth, trauma, boredom (and the list goes on), you need to learn how to identify them, have new skills to keep them under control. Then you will need a plan that keeps you strong when the ups and downs of daily life make your drug of choice appear attractive.
Our program is designed to help you address the factors that are driving your addiction – whether they be emotional, mental, physical, or social. We will provide you with a toolbox of skills that enable you to manage these issues in new and better ways. Very importantly, we will work with you to develop a plan to live life differently, so that you have defenses against the siren call of addiction.
Our 7 days of working together will be demanding and busy. They will not cure your drug and alcohol addiction — that’s not what addiction recovery is all about. However, our program will give you the information, skills, and strategies, that empower you to maintain sobriety and avoid relapse.
