A new addiction recovery program to prevent relapse by individuals entering recovery from substance abuse, and those needing help to keep their addiction recovery strong. March 17-24, 2019
Addiction to drugs and alcohol requires learning how to live differently.
In recovery, you must discover how to manage emotions that have been tempered in the past by using. Another step is to understand the ways in which addiction twists thinking and learn to apply techniques that redirect thoughts in a positive way. You also need to master skills that improve relationships, reduce conflict, and build friendships that foster happiness. Of critical importance is identifying healthy patterns for living each day, reducing stress, and maintaining long-term sobriety.
This is a tall order. But we know it can be achieved because we have guided people on this journey hundreds of times.
A proven approach.
We offer an approach to relapse prevention that we know has a very high success rate. Frustrated by the frequent relapse that too often characterizes addiction treatment (often more than 70%) we designed a new recovery program from the ground up. We built a treatment facility in Pennsylvania called St. Joseph Institute and worked with thousands of people suffering with drug and alcohol addiction. The success of our graduates was among the highest in the North East. After a decade, we sold the facility and undertook more research and writing about addiction treatment — in preparation for launching our new programs to help people establish lasting recovery.
The 7-Day recovery program we offer at Dominion Hill Country Inn, near St. Andrews, New Brunswick, (close to the Maine border) brings together decades of experience. It is intensive, hard work, but it can lead to great results. At the end of 7 days you will have a “toolbox” to manage your recovery in the years ahead. You will also have developed a plan to manage your sobriety day-to-day, so that life’s challenges don’t send you into a downward spiral.
Among the important issues that we will work on together are the following:
- Establishing boundaries that let you take control of your life.
- Understanding your emotions, and the techniques that help you manage them – rather than letting them manage you.
- Building healthy relationships, and repairing those that have been damaged.
- Learning the skills that enable you to better communicate, resolve conflict, make decisions, solve problems, and experience real intimacy.
- Acknowledging your spiritual self, determining the expression that is right for you.
- Exploring the disease of addiction, how it has impacted you, and how to master the symptoms.
- Managing stress and establishing a plan for healthy living.
- Embracing a strategy for recovery that will help you stay strong and sober in the years to come.
The 7 day program will be directed by Michael Campbell — executive, professor, retreat leader, and co-founder of St. Joseph Institute for Addiction. Participation in this recovery program is limited to 12. Spouses and partners, who want to support your addiction recovery, and learn these life-changing skills, are welcome to join you.
